The Great Ocean Walk is designed for walkers to step on and step off the trail. This means walkers can spend an afternoon on the walk, a day, a few days or complete the walk over a period of 5 to 6 days, (or longer if you would like a rest day).
Walkers can camp the whole way along the walk in specially designed camp sites reserved for walkers. Bookings for campsite can be made through Parks Victoria
Alternatively, walkers can "step on/step off" the trail and stay in beautiful accommodation with transport arranged. Some accommodation providers willalso provide packed lunches and dinners. All you have to do is enjoy the magnificent views and make your way to the next pick up point.
Just outside the Apollo Bay Information Centre is the start of the Great Ocean Walk.
The walk finishes at the 12 Apostles about 104kms later. The walk will take you through rainforests, along beaches, over rocks, great views over the ocean from sea cliffs.
First section - Apollo Bay to Marengo Point

Grade: Easy
Type: One way - East to West, car shuttles.
Next section: Marengo Point to Shelly Beach
Locals' Tip: From Apollo Bay, walk along the beach, through the harbour, along the side of the golf course and then drop down onto the beach to see if you can cross the river. If you can, walk all the way along Marengo Beach. A bit of soft sand walking here but a beautiful stretch of beach. Outside summer times, you will probably have this long beach to yourself.
